FAQs- NEWBORN SESSION

For your convenience, the most asked questions are all here. If you don’t find what you need, please contact us via the contact form or by emailing us at info@lenarafunk.com

When is the best time to book my newborn session?

It’s never too early to book your Newborn session.  I take a limited number of newborn sessions each week so I can accommodate the newborns that arrive early or late.   You will receive a tentative date for your session based on your due date, however, these dates can  change once baby arrives.  It is best to get your session on the calendar as soon as possible.

How soon do I come in for my session once Baby arrives?

Ideally, newborn sessions occur within the first 2 weeks of your baby’s life.  They are still very sleepy and more posable and we can get those yummy and curly poses.

If your baby is older than 2 weeks, don’t worry! We can still capture some beautiful photos of the baby and your family. A lifestyle newborn session also can be a great option.

You will receive a Prep Guide a few days before your session that lists some things to help you prepare yourself and your new baby for the session. We understand that this time can be a bit overwhelming for new parents and that’s why she takes all the guess work out.  You really just need to show up with the baby for the session and we  will take care of the rest!

How long will a session last?

A full newborn session lasts anywhere from 2-3 hours depending on the baby.  We do stop for feeding and soothing  during these sessions.  All babies are different and all sessions are different so this is a rough estimate of how long you can expect to be at the studio. Just know that we do not rush through the session. We want to make sure your baby is safe and comfortable and will take as many breaks as needed.

Where does the session take place?

The session takes place at my home studio in Chula Vista. (off Telegraph Canyon and 805).

The studio is very comfortable and I want all of my clients to make themselves feel at home. There is a waiting area and a shooting area.  In the waiting area, I do have a TV where you can watch shows from  Netflix, but feel free to bring any books to read or any movies you may want to watch.  You are welcome to even take a nap. 🙂 I  also have some toys for children to play with and I do keep some snacks and water for the family.

Do you travel for newborn sessions?

Yes. I can travel to your home for a newborn session for a small fee.

I am expecting multiples (twins, triplets, etc…) Does that  cost more?

No. We do not charge extra fees for the session for multiples.

I’m expecting a boy and we are planning to circumcise.  How long do we need to wait before having his photos taken?

We recommend that you schedule the circumcision after the photo session, if possible.  Otherwise, please allow at least 5 days for healing after the procedure.

How many outfits should I bring for the baby to wear for his/her photos?

You don’t have to bring anything!   Once you fill out our Newborn Questionnaire, we will select outfits, headbands, hats, and props to suit your color preferences.  You are welcome to bring a couple items or outfits to the session and we will do our best to incorporate them.

What should parents/siblings wear?

Keeping it simple is usually best.  If possible, parents posing with their new baby should wear things neutral or muted in color.  Moms can wear anything from a simple camisole to a long sleeved top. Dads can wear a  basic t-shirt in white, tan, gray, or black, that way we can have all the colors flowing with the session.

Another tip we like to give is to be mindful of fingernails/hands. Your hands will be shown on the pictures, so we try to remind you to give some attention to them. The same goes for the siblings.

What is your turnaround on the images?

I try to have them ready between 1-2 weeks.

If you need photos for announcement cards, please let me know and I will accommodate that.

When do I view and order my photos?

We will schedule an in-person viewing and ordering appointment approximately 2 weeks after your session where you will view your photos and place your order.

When do I pay for the session?

I kindly ask you that you pay your session fee in order to reserve  your session.

I accept cash, check Paypal, or credit card.
